Fast, Rankable, Maintainable: Our Web Development Playbook

A business site that loads in under a second and ranks on Google is not magic — it is a short list of disciplined choices made before the first line of code.

Most business websites fail quietly: they load slowly on the phones customers actually use, rank on page four, and become unmaintainable the moment the original developer leaves. Our web playbook is deliberately boring — and it produces sites that score 90+ on Lighthouse and keep ranking for years.

Speed is a feature you design, not optimize later

The biggest wins are decided up front: system or self-hosted fonts instead of five font families, SVG instead of PNG for interface graphics, one CSS file instead of a framework you use 8% of, and zero JavaScript libraries unless something genuinely needs them. This site you are reading is plain PHP with vanilla JS — every animation you see costs almost nothing to load.

Then the server layer: compression, long-lived caching for static assets, and images served at the size they render. None of this is exotic; it is just done before launch instead of promised after.

SEO that is structural, not sprinkled

  • One clear topic per page, with the H1 and title agreeing with each other.
  • Clean URLs, canonical tags, XML sitemap and robots.txt from day one.
  • Structured data (Organization, FAQ, Product) so Google understands the site, not just reads it.
  • Real copy written for buyers — search engines reward pages people actually stay on.

Pick the stack for the hosting you have

A Next.js app on managed hosting is wonderful — and overkill for a site that a shared PHP host can serve for a few dollars a month. We build marketing sites in dependency-free PHP, product dashboards in Laravel or Next.js, and we will tell you plainly which your project needs. The wrong stack is the one whose monthly bill or maintenance burden surprises you.

The Core Web Vitals targets we build to

  • LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) under 2.5s on a mid-range phone over 4G — achieved by shipping the hero as lightweight SVG/text, preconnecting fonts, and keeping render-blocking CSS in one small file.
  • INP (Interaction to Next Paint) under 200ms — no heavy JS frameworks parsing on load; interactions are plain event listeners.
  • CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) under 0.1 — every image and embed gets explicit dimensions; fonts load with swap and sane fallbacks.
  • Total page weight: we treat 500 KB as the budget for a marketing page, and most of ours come in well under it.

The launch-week SEO checklist

  • Search Console: verify the domain, submit the sitemap, request indexing on the money pages.
  • One H1 per page that matches the title tag intent; canonical tags on every page.
  • Structured data validated (Organization, FAQ, Breadcrumb) in the Rich Results test.
  • OG/Twitter cards render correctly when the link is shared on WhatsApp and LinkedIn — where your customers actually paste links.
  • 404s return real 404 status; www/non-www and http/https redirect to one canonical origin.
Pro tip

Image discipline is 80% of most speed problems: serve images at the size they render, prefer SVG for graphics and WebP/AVIF for photos, and lazy-load only below-the-fold media — lazy-loading the hero image actively hurts LCP.

Maintainability is a deliverable

Every web project ships with documentation, an editable content layer, and deployment instructions your next developer can follow. If updating a headline requires calling an agency, the site was built wrong.
